National Youth Week

Youth Appreciation Night

Outside of National Youth Week, the City hosts events and programs at the youth centre at the Peggy Hill Team Community Centre, and at the Lampman Lane Community Centre on an ongoing basis, offering individuals aged 11 to 17 in Barrie opportunities for creative development, exploration, personal growth and play. As part of the City’s effort to tackle the affordable housing crisis, an Affordable Housing Symposium will be held on May 4 from 4 to 8pm. This event is open to everyone and features the following:

a screening of the documentary Searching for Home, including a question and answer session with the people featured in the documentary, as well as Dr. Naomi Thulien, the lead researcher on the film

Real2Reel Documentary Film Screening of “Traffick on 401”

Join us for the second screening in the Real2Reel Documentary Film Festival presented by the RBC Foundation and United Way Simcoe Muskoka. The event will begin at 6:30pm with the film “Traffick on 401”; followed by a panel discussion.

Traffick on 401 explores the sex trafficking world in Ontario and Michigan by speaking to a survivor, the Windsor Police Service, and advocates. Victoria Morrison, a sex trafficking survivor, tells us her story of what she went through for three months with her trafficker in Winnipeg, Canada. You’re invited to engage in meaningful dialogue and help shine a light on the human trafficking problem in Canada.
